Saint Michael is an archangel, a spiritual warrior in the battle of good versus evil. The symbolic character appears across Judaism (Hebrew Bible), Christianity (New Testament), and Islam (Quran), and consistently in all forms represents humanity’s struggle over the hold of the Devil. 

This piece was created from a photograph of a statue in Paris taken by @s.c.m07 - I remember swiping upon it on instagram and being hit by its composition and raw power. From that photograph, the image was manipulated into a large-form stencil which took many hours in photoshop to digitally construct. That stencil was then printed and cut from a sheet of single-use paper. As a flimsy material, paper only offers one attempt to get the spray painted image executed correctly, so that is to say about 100 hours went into creating this one-of-one image that all came together in the matter of a two-minute ceremony. 

During these troubled and dark times, the timelessness and tradition of Saint Michael offers us the opportunity to be called forth from our Earthly selves, and to embody heavenly judgement in our lives. No matter how difficult, we must fight for what is right and overcome.
